How to Clean Styling Tools and Hair Dryers

It is recommended to clean your hair dryer and styling tools in proportion to usage. Hair salon owners and barbers will typically need to clean styling tools weekly (at a minimum), but for home use, there’s usually much less exposure to grease and dirt and therefore, once or twice a month is more than enough.

Styling Tools

Wahl heated styling tools are easy to use and require little maintenance.

Why should you clean your styling tools? Hairspray and thermal sprays can quickly build up on styling tools requiring you to clean them after every use. It’s particularly important to clean and sanitise your hair styling tools if you are a professional hair stylist who uses them on clients every day.

How to clean: To clean, make sure the iron is unplugged before you begin. Grab a damp washcloth and rub it over the barrel or plate, removing as much residue as you can. Stick to water and avoid cleansers.

How to store: Always allow the tool to cool before storing away. Store your tool by loosely wrapping the cord around its base and inspect regularly for cuts and nicks in the cord. Should you find any, discontinue use. Avoid getting the tool wet.

Wahl Hair Dryers

Wahl hair dryers are easy to use and require little upkeep.

Why should you clean your hair dryer? A dirty, clogged blow-dryer can be very hazardous. Debris including hair, dust, dirt, heat protectants, and sticky hair sprays can cause the vents to become blocked. The build-up of this dirt prevents air from being pushed out, and the internal temperature of the dryer can end up rising to dangerous levels.

How to clean: Cleaning a hair dryer is simple and will not take more than a few minutes. Ensuring the hair appliance is unplugged, clean the outside of the dryer with a moist rag or sponge. It’s less directly obvious when your dryer needs to be cleaned because most of the debris build-up sits inside. The filter screen can be easily cleaned using a vacuum. Alternatively, if you dryer has a detachable filter, remove the filter and wipe away dust, dirt and debris with a damp cloth and dry with a paper towel. Make sure the filter is completely dry before reattaching it.

How to store: Store the dryer by loosely wrapping the cord around its base and inspect regularly for cuts and nicks in the cord. Should you find any, stop using the product immediately. Avoid getting the tool wet.
